Comprehensive Bridge Inspections Under NBIS and IDOT Standards

This project involves a range of engineering services centered on the routine inspection of major bridges across Illinois. Inspections will adhere to the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and IDOT’s Bridge Inspection Policy. These services include:

Routine Inspections
Nonredundant Steel Tension Member Inspections
Underwater (non-diving) Inspections
Element Level and Special Inspections

In addition, HBM will handle field investigations, potential training programs, and manage damage and load rating inspections for select projects. The complexity of these tasks underscores HBM’s extensive expertise in bridge inspection and engineering.

Key Project Responsibilities

As part of this contract, HBM Engineering Group will provide all necessary equipment for bridge inspections, including specialized tools to ensure accurate assessments. Traffic control may also be required to facilitate safe and efficient inspection processes. Additionally, the project may involve plan preparation for bridge repairs or rehabilitation, load capacity ratings for new or existing structures, and other engineering services as required.

Navigating the Challenges of Long Span Structures

The IDOT Prequalification for Major River Bridges focuses on the design, major rehabilitation, and forensic investigation of long span structures. These structures, typically founded in deep moving water, boast spans greater than 350 feet, necessitating sophisticated analysis, design expertise, and knowledge of specialized construction techniques.
