The role

About this position

HBM Engineering Group is seeking a Bridge Engineer/Inspector to perform bridge inspections in accordance with NBIS procedures for Element Level and Routine Inspections throughout IDOT District One and District Two.

Responsibilities

What you'll do

  • Assist IDOT's engineers, managers, and technicians in the daily work required to inspect structures throughout IDOT District One and District Two, and prepare reports documenting their condition and deficiencies.
  • Perform bridge inspections in accordance with NBIS procedures for Element Level and Routine Inspections.

Qualifications

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university (Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering is a plus)
  • Must be Team Leader Certified in the State of Illinois (Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) license a plus)
  • Must have completed FHWA Introduction to Element Level Bridge Inspection Training
  • Must have completed FHWA Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
  • Minimum of 4+ years of bridge engineering experience in all elements of bridge designs and/or inspection
  • Ability to climb and inspect various types of bridges, including wading in streams, and be comfortable working at heights for extended periods of time
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Experience with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and familiarity with their policies and procedures
  • Proven record of work that is accurate and thorough
  • Superior time management skills, a strong work ethic, and a desire to learn
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and remote environment
