Project Overview

Description

HBM functions as a Phase II structural engineering provider for a complex and time-sensitive project under Stantec's supervision. The work encompasses five miles of mainline roadway reconstruction with a future lane addition, thirteen new bridges, box culverts, noise walls, and retaining walls.

• ›Designer of Record for River Road over I-80 (SN 099-8304), four culverts on I-80, soldier pile retaining walls along River Road, I-80 EB/WB over the DuPage River (SN 099-8312 and 099-8313), and I-80 EB/WB (and Ramps A and D) over West Frontage Road (SN 099-8314 and 099-8315)

• ›I-80 EB/WB over the DuPage River: three-span continuous dual structure with spans of 94'-5", 122'-1", and 94'-5"; IL54 PPC beams; drilled-shaft bents with webwalls and permanent casing socketed into bedrock; semi-integral abutments on steel piles; Seismic Performance Zone 1
• ›River Road over I-80: new two-span bridge (115'-0" each span) replacing the existing four-span bridge; 233.7-foot back-to-back abutment length; 43.8-foot out-to-out width; 40" web plate girders on integral abutments (steel H-piles) and a pier on drilled shafts
• ›I-80 over River Road Zone A culverts (4 locations): existing single-cell box culverts replaced with cast-in-place three-cell box culverts, 260 feet long and 20 feet total width, with up to 5.0 feet of embankment fill and the I-80 grade raised up to 3.0 feet
• ›Two soldier pile retaining walls along River Road (Southeast and Northeast), 360'-0" and 317'-8" respectively
