Project Overview

Description

The project involved a multifaceted approach to rehabilitation and emergency repair work, addressing critical structures and interchange components across the Tollway network. Working as a sub-consultant to GRAEF-USA, Inc., HBM contributed to three principal scopes: (1) Emergency Bridge Inspection and Repair at Rote Road over the I-90 Tollway (Bridge No. 723); (2) the Eola Road Interchange Retaining Wall at the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88); and (3) the Farnsworth Ramp Plaza Monotube Design.

• ›Scope 1 — Emergency Bridge Inspection & Repair, Rote Road over I-90 Tollway (Bridge No. 723): four-span RC deck on continuous PPC I-beams, three piers plus two RC abutments; bridge closed May 18, 2010 due to vehicular impact in Span 3
• ›Scope 2 — Eola Road Interchange Retaining Wall at the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88): 1,150 feet of cast-in-place retaining wall; 4 new ramps (A–D) with electronic tolling; 6 detention basins; wall types include a soldier pile wall with C.I.P. panels and W24x94 piles and a vertical cantilever wall near the existing Eola Road Bridge; HBM performed QA/QC for the Ramp A retaining wall
• ›Scope 3 — Farnsworth Ramp Plaza Monotube Design: a steel monotube frame on two concrete drilled-shaft foundations for I-Pass toll collection on the Farnsworth Ave ramp off I-88
